Email Marketing in the Age of Smartphones

Smartphones have taken over the world and as an e-retailer, it’s part of your responsibility to make sure customers can browse and shop your site. Why would you stop there?

By keeping just a few simple guidelines in mind, you can be sure your customers will be able to easily read your email marketing campaigns. Common problems associated with rendering email marketing messages include a crammed screen and links that can’t be discerned from the rest of the text.

So, what do you do to make sure your customers can read your message? I came across this post at Copybloggger from Shane Ketterman, to see the post in its entirety, click here.

First, include a plain text version. Most email services will provide and/or require you include a plain text version of your message.

Next, keep links uncrowded. Don’t place different links close together. That may make it difficult for your reader to successfully click the link. Make sure they are easy to distinguish from the plain text.

Thirdly, fine tune your subject line. Of course, you need to do this to optimize traditional emails, but your subject line is even shorter on mobile devices. You only have about 5-7 words to work with that will grab their attention and make them open.

Your fourth tip is to be sure to use the correct tags for your images. This should be done across the board, not just for mobile-optimized messages. If for some reason an image doesn’t load, the Alt. Text will be visible on the screen. Use it to describe the image.

Finally, make sure your call to action is clear and that it stands out easily.
